Blackberries (Burning)
Blackberries (Burning)
The blackberries are everywhere, their thorny runners creeping through the grass and climbing into trees.
With so many wild ones about, we don't need to grow any on the property. Id rather use the space for something more valuable.

The Bantam Menace
Well, we fixed the clucky chook afterall. I think the day in the pooh cage and the cold weather may have snapped her out of it. But the other bantam has been clucky as well. Just found her nest a couple days ago. Under a tree in the blackberries rather close to the edge of the cliff. She sat there all day long for nearly 3 days in a row and just got off today to eat something.

And unlike the first bantam who was only sitting on one egg, this one is sitting on 16!!!! So we will let her continue. We shall see how many of the little ones will survive.

Blackberries
Blackberries
Wild blackberries are a bit of a curse round here, growing rampantly wherever they can. However at this time of year they redeem themselves somewhat by offering up sweet berries.
In addition to the thorny wild plants, we have a thornless variety in the garden that produces larger, more accessible berries.

The goat
The goat
So, today was our first wedding anniversary, and we celebrated it by getting a goat.
Rescued as a kid when it's mother was shot in the wild, this goat is of the tame feral variety and is on loan from some people down the road.

His name is Babe, but he gets called 'Baby'. After this trial period, we will be able to determine if it's worth having our own goat one day. Although a female goat could potentially be better as the male goats are more likely to bunt and be aggressive.

So far, Babe is keeping the grass down around his little house. Hopefully he will munch down the blackberries so they won't get out of control again.
