Quite a while ago we put chicken wire along the bottom of the fence to keep the chooks from coming too close to the house. They are mostly contained to the back two paddocks. This chicken wire also makes it so that Gibson can't get through, unless he uses the style of course.
There is a diagonal fence post next to the style that he uses as a ramp. He races up his ramp to the top of the vertical fence post and then jumps down and over the fence onto the step. Well, yesterday he was so excited about going to feed the chooks that he skipped the step altogether and just went FLYING off the top of the fence post like some kind of super hero. All he needs is a little cape and a mask...plus the gumboots....and he'll be un-stopable!
He is so fascinated by the chooks and their hen house. Yesterday he climbed into one of the nest boxes just to try it on for size. He also was trying to wait for the clucky hen to get out of her nest box....but he gave up because she wasn't getting out. He got quite a fright when he went sniffing around in there and got right up to her without even seeing her at first. She was sitting so quietly and perfectly still in her little box. He took a leap backwards when he realised the beedy little eyes looking back at him.
Later, Gibson chased a rabbit all across the two paddocks by the chooks. Olmec got to witness the chase which was quite speedy. But the rabbit got away. Good that Gibson will be reminded that there are rabbits to hunt, not just birds.
