Wobbly

I was staying at my parents place on that night (coming back late from a day at the office in Christchurch). They are about 100 km north of the center and we felt it pretty good. (I was upstairs)... lots of wobbling for about 30 - 40 seconds. It stopped just as were deciding enough was enough and it was serious enough to consider evacuating.

Couple of things came down off shelves and broke. No serious or structural damage to the house etc. But we were worried as their house has stone external cladding and a big stone chimney.... Stood up to it though.

At my house, where Melisa was, the shaking was substantially less (another 70 km north) and our neighbor slept through it.

My sister lives in in Christchurch, in Avonside, one of the more effected areas. They evacuated to my parents place as their house has sunk at one end and all cracked up the walls and roof. They went back today to assess and see if it is safe enough. Sounds like it may be demolished.

The question is if the insurance can cover all the losses. Something like 500 - 700 buildings will be condemned.
