Do it yourself

How you and your family can help fight global waming

The following list of hints will help you make changes to your life that will have a positive effect on the environment.

Plant a tree
If you have spare land or if you know someone who does, then plant a tree. Trees extract carbon dioxide out of the air and store the carbon in their wood. If you don’t have land then we can plant a tree for you.

Drive and fly less
Cars, trucks and planes burn non-renewable fossil fuels, this releases CO2 into the atmosphere causing a rise in global temperature.

Only drive when you must and make sure your car is tuned and check your tyre pressure for optimal efficiency. Use car pooling and take the bus when possible.

Purchase local products
By choosing which products you purchase you can reduce your contribution to global warming and help support your local economy. Products that have been imported from overseas require greater energy expenditure to get them to New Zealand.

Reduce energy consumption
By replacing light bulbs, switching them off when not in use and generally cutting back on high energy uses like water heating can drastically reduce your emissions and save you money.
