Working with pigs

Tree friendly

We put off getting larger four legged animals because we have so many young trees and were worried that they might get damaged or eaten. Now that we have these 2 small pigs dashing about it is clear that this is not a concern, with kunekune at least. They predominantly eat grass, which help us since most of our grass control has been done by scythe up to this point.

Manure

Our garden and pastures now benefit from an added source of manure. Because they eat mainly grass it is a fairly dry and inoffensive excrement making it not to disgusting to work with. Every few days I wonder round their enclosure with a shovel and scoop up turds for use somewhere.

Rota and Mowa the kunekune pigs

Ready to move to the next level of small scale, high intensity land management, it's pig time.
We picked up a deal with some guy giving away these 6 month old kunekune girls.
Very friendly, seemingly live on grass and hopefully turns the ground for planting.
