A mission for seals

olmecUpHigh (JPG)

High on the jagged rocks of the south coast on a mission for seals. Unfortunately we didn’t see any live seals. The sun was fast setting behind the high cliffs and the familiar cold wind whipping in of the ocean. We bypassed the long walk back by thumbing a lift in the back of a pickup truck.

As the last of the warm afternoon sun slipped behind the high cliffs I caught the rays passing through a fat piece of desiccated seaweed. The glow brings out the individual cells.

Sailing, Fishing and Swimming

milanSailUp (JPG)

Milan hoists the sail as we leave the marina and glide out into the harbour. A slight breeze, flat water and not a cloud to be seen.

upFront (JPG)

Perched up the front I enjoy a ginger beer in the sun as we continue our passage out towards Somes Island.

sisters (JPG)

Melisa and sister Emily enjoy the 'thrill' of sailing, making the most of their school break.

meRowing (JPG)

Rowing out to collect limpets for bait. We take the little row boat (son of Kiko) toward the rocks and shoreline of Somes. The water was cold but enjoyable as we waded knee deep prising shells off into a bucket.

olmecSwim (JPG)

A quick dip off the side of the boat. The cold water was extremely refreshing but the sun was still high and warm. The last swim of the season?

olmecDryingOff (JPG)

Drying off in the sun. My dip in the water gave me a new found appreciation for the warmth of the sun.

usTwo (JPG)

The sun left us, sliding on the cool breth the wind. Far out in the harbour the cold was creeping in. Time to wrap up in hats, jackets and each other.

moonRise (JPG)

A full moon rose fat and gold through the purple haze of distance, frustrating all attempts of photograph. Our memories will suffice.
