Welsh bunching onion plants

- Perennial and self-multiplying
- Cold-hardy and drought-tolerant once established
- Great companion plant and pollinator-friendly
- Supplied as healthy, rooted plants ready for transplanting
Plant your Welsh bunching onion transplants in well-drained soil with good sun exposure. Space clumps about 15–20 cm apart in rows or clusters, allowing room for them to expand. Gently firm the soil around the roots and water well after planting.
Keep the soil moist while plants establish, then water as needed — they are relatively drought-tolerant once settled. Mulching helps retain moisture and suppress weeds.
These onions prefer rich, fertile soil, so apply compost or a balanced organic fertiliser during the growing season. Harvest individual stalks as needed, or lift and divide clumps annually to maintain vigour and productivity.
Over time, the plants will multiply, forming larger bunches that can be split and replanted, providing a continuous, self-renewing supply.
